Apple mengumumkan perangkat telekomunikasi mereka terbaru mereka, iPhone 5. Ponsel dengan ukuran 12.38 x 5.86 x 0.96 cm ini hadir dengan luas penampang layar seluas 4 inci menggunakan perlindungan Corning Gorilla Glass oleophobic coating berkedalaman 16 juta warna dengan resolusi 640 x 1136 piksel menggunakan teknologi LED-Backlit IPS TFT. iPhone 5 ini memiliki bobot 112 g, lebih ringan dari iPhone 4S.

Masih menggunakan kamera utama dengan kekuatan 8 MP, peningkatan terjadi pada kamera depan yang kini menjadi 1.2 MP (iPhone 4S masih VGA). Kamera ini dipastikan membuat fitur FaceTime menjadi lebih nyata. Kecepatan perekaman video juga meningkat menjadi 720@30fps. Selain itu, fitur panorama ikut ditambahkan untuk melengkapi fitur lain yang sudah tersedia seperti Backside Illumination, Hybrid IR Filter, Five-element lens dan f/2.4 aperture.

Ponsel yang menggunakan Operating System iOS 6 ini berjalan dengan chipset A6 milik Apple yang menawarkan kinerja dua kali lebih cepat dan memiliki bentuk yang lebih kecil. Dari segi jaringan, iPhone 5 siap dijalankan dengan jaringan HSPA+, DC-HSDPA serta LTE berkecepatan hingga 100Mbps.

iPhone ini memiliki 5 mickrofon yang terletak di depan, di bawah serta di belakang. Begitu pula dengan speaker yang mengalami peningkatan dengan penambahan fitur noise-cancelling serta wideband audio.

Dari segi konektor, iPhone mengganti konektor 30-pin miliknya menjadi 8-pin serta menggunakan desain yang dapat dibalik sehingga Anda tidak perlu keliru mencari mana sisi atas dan bawah. Desain ini juga membuat konektor yang diberi nama Lighting ini menjadi lebih kecil dan ramping.
